Community Mural Project for Amazon Fulfillment Center ORF3

In partnership with Amazon.com , Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts is pleased to announce this Call for Mural Artist(s) seeking Artist for a mural and/or murals at the Amazon Fulfillment Facility, ORF3, located in North Suffolk, Virginia. The Amazon Facility is the second largest building in the state of Virginia, bested only by the Pentagon! The Facility employs thousands of workers from all backgrounds and strives to create an atmosphere of inclusion and pride for employees. The interior spaces allocated for murals have currently been described as clinical and industrial.

We are seeking talented and experienced muralists or mural teams to create large-scale murals for multiple interior spaces of the Amazon Fulfillment Facility, ORF3, located in North Suffolk, Virginia located at 2020 Northgate Commerce Parkway

Amazon values the communities it serves and with the assistance of The Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts the goal is to commission local (Hampton Roads, Virginia) artists to create artwork that will be a visual representation of the Suffolk and Hampton Roads communities and will reflect the values of the Amazon brand. The final designs must be original and not previously published.

Amazon’s mission is “to be Earth’s most customer-centric company”. And our Operations and award-winning Customer Service teams are at the heart

of that mission.

Those selected based on their previous body of work will be interviewed, provide a tour of the space, and asked to provide a design that reflects Amazon’s values as well as the Amazon’s thirteen Affinity Groups.

The mural project at the Amazon Fulfillment Center, will be completed in the following areas of the facility:

1. Interior Entrance Area

2. Interior HR Area Interior

3. Interior Community Break Area

The artwork created should reflect the diversity and vibrancy of the communities of Suffolk and Hampton Roads, incorporate themes related to Amazon’s values, and represent Amazon employees through the thirteen Affinity groups. The artwork should be bold, vibrant, and engaging, and should enhance the visual landscape of the

Amazon Fulfillment Facility, ORF3 building.

Design submissions should include a portfolio of 3-5 largescale murals, artist resume, and artist statement. Applicants will be considered by jury based on relationship with the Hampton Roads area, compatibility of artwork with Amazon values, and themes of inclusion in artwork that reflect the thirteen Amazon affinity groups.

Deadline:

The deadline for all submissions in response to this call is June 21, 2023 @ 12:00 am

The selected artists or artist teams will be responsible for all aspects of the mural project, including design and installation, and be judged based on:

Eligibility:

- Experienced artists or artist teams over the age of 18 are eligible to apply - Artists must have experience creating large-scale murals of public artwork - Artists must have a portfolio of previous work as well as references

- Artists are required to have proof of insurance

Application Requirements:

• Resume or CV

• Artist Statement

• 3-5 Images of completed large scale murals

• References from previous clients or letters of recommendation

Juried Selection Process:

A selection committee composed of representatives from Amazon.com and Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts will review the submissions and select a shortlist of artists or artist teams to be interviewed.

Interviews will be done either in person or through ZOOM.

The selected artists or artist teams for the project(s) will be notified by electronic mail by close of business day on July 1st 2023.

The selection committee will use the following criteria:

• Artistic merit and graphic strength of design portfolio

• Contribution to the aesthetic and cultural atmosphere of the Amazon

Fulfillment Facility, ORF3

• Appropriateness of the subject and concept for public space;

• Completeness of the submission as outlined in this announcement.

Content will be deemed inappropriate which portrays content that violates copyright or other known legal ownership interest; profanity, obscenity, indecency, violence, pornography; discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or nationality; defamation or personal attacks.

Payment:

The selected muralist or mural teams will be awarded a budget for the design concept and materials needed to execute the project. Amazon.com will own the copyrights and enjoy the unlimited, licensed use of the selected design(s) for purposes of their own, as they choose. Amazon.com will not profit from the use of the art.
